Be a Fashion Queen in a Cape Dress

If you saw the Dior show at Paris Fashion Week last month you’re no doubt as obsessed as we are about Rhianna in her incredible pastel pink cape dress. As an international pop superstar RiRi always has a regal air about her, but in this dress she truly looked like a fashion queen and there’s no doubt it’s the cape style that did it.

Rhianna isn’t the only celeb to have rocked a glam cape dress. Just last week Kim Kardashian showed offer her baby bump in a clingy Valentino cape gown at the InStyle Awards. At the 2014 Golden Globes we saw Lupita Nyongo rock a stunning red cape dress by Ralph Lauren which really made waves in the fashion world. Gwyneth Paltrow turned heads at the Oscars in a stunning white Tom Ford cape gown back in 2012, and three years later we still go gooey just thinking about it.

The thing is that cape dresses never really seem to go in and out of fashion; they’re simply stunning at any time, and it seems they will forever be loved by celebs who are looking for some show-stopping regal style for the red carpet. But we think feeling like royalty shouldn’t be reserved for the celebs alone.

Our take on the regal cape dress

One of our favourite dresses from our autumn/winter collection is the Elodie Crepe Flared Sleeve Dress. This stunning white dress has a gorgeous floaty overlay which is very similar to that worn by Kim, Lupita and Gwyneth, but rather than create a floor length gown we decided to go for a mini length to transform the regal cape style into something more suitable for a party.

A white dress never fails to turn heads in its own right, but throw in some cape-style sleeves and you’re definitely onto a winner. We think this flared sleeve dress is perfect for a glam night out, but it could also be worn to more formal black tie events and still look incredibly sophisticated. It’s the type of outfit that makes you feel a million dollars as soon as you zip it up; no wonder the celebrities are all about the cape dress when it has such a powerful effect.
